Webinar: How to get greenwashing airline ads banned
Green Flying is an Illusion…and advertising that promotes “responsible” flying or so-called “sustainable” aviation fuels is misleading and illegal greenwashing.
Advertisements about “responsible” flying or so-called “sustainable” aviation fuels are one important way for the aviation industry to promote the illusion of green flying and mislead the public about their (missing) contribution to CO2 reduction goals. But this practice is increasingly being challenged. In March 2024 in a historic victory the Dutch court ruled against KLM airline that their marketing campaign was misleading for its claims over so-called “Sustainable” Aviation Fuel and offsetting. In April 2024, the European Commission together with national regulators sent letters to 20 airlines over their own misleading green claims giving them a deadline of 30 days to stop misleading claims and respond. And in the past few months and years we have witnessed several bans of misleading airline advertisements by national advertising watchdogs.
These are promising developments, but now we need to keep up the pressure on the regulators and the aviation industry.
In this hands on webinar we look at how each of us can fight individually or with their group against misleading greenwashing. We will hear from Hiske Arts vom Fossielvrij Netherlands about how they won their case against KLM and we will present our new toolkit with a lot of helpful resources for handing in complaints or writing to national regulators. There will be space for exchange and discussion based on concrete examples.
